When we are going to take a trip, be it short or long, preparing the car to travel is essential if we want to enjoy a good journey.

A car that is well prepared for a long distance trip is a safer car, a more fun car to drive and a car in which you will be much more comfortable when driving it.

Many people believe that they know how to prepare the car to travel, however, I see them make some rookie mistakes, which bring consequences that hinder the course of the trip to a greater or lesser extent.

Among the consequences, we have some mild ones such as fatigue, such as lack of space or being thirsty, to other more serious ones such as having an accident, mechanical failures and lack of solutions to a small-calibre breakdown that we could have repaired ourselves. themselves.

In addition, we must distinguish between short trips, long trips, trips with the family, leisure trips, work trips… Although they all seem the same, they really have some key differences between them, which must be understood in order to make the journey of the most correct and attractive way possible.

When we understand all this, we will be able to make a pleasant trip, whoever it is with, as well as a totally safe trip for you and your loved ones.

In addition, most solutions to prepare a trip are cheap or even free, which will mean that you have no excuse to prepare, since it is free. Wouldn’t it be great to be protected first and foremost for just a little bit of investment?

What do you need to prepare the car to travel?

  • Water or liquids.
  • Reflective vest.
  • Puncture repair kit.
  • Other security elements.

Instructions to prepare the car for travel

  1. Carry everything you need and well placed: The first thing we must take into account when making a trip is the luggage that we are going to carry. This will vary for several reasons, first of all, it is not the same to make a trip outward than to do it alone, just as it is not the same to make a one-week trip than to make a move. The more people and the longer the trip lasts, the more luggage we will carry. Many people have problems with luggage, since it doesn’t fit them. The way to make it fit us and that we can travel with enough space is to make good use of the trunk of the car, in which you should try to fill in the spaces, especially the corners. You can also put things on the roof of the car or in the back seat, as long as there is no one in those seats.
  2. Bring all the safety elements for the trip: As many people die on the roads, we are fully committed and aware of road safety on the road. That is why we are obliged to tell you that you must carry all the mandatory safety elements in the car. The law requires you to wear two warning triangles, which are placed 50 meters from the accident if you have one, as well as an approved reflective vest. Also keep the car in order, along with all its papers, your driver’s license and insurance papers to avoid problems with the police. Leave all this in a place where you can easily access it (many people leave it in the trunk, others in the passenger seat…), to act quickly in case there is some kind of accident on the road.
  3. Carry liquids: As some of the DGT announcements say, hydration is essential at the wheel, because if we are dehydrated, the concentration behind the wheel will be much worse than if we were totally hydrated. In addition, when it is hot and we have children, we must bring liquids so that they are well hydrated and thus avoid heat stroke. Bring at least one bottle of water, which you can drink during breaks (you can’t drink while driving). If you need to drink water, you must stop somewhere, signal the maneuver in the correct way and proceed to drink the water. You can also take energy drinks in case you have slept a few hours, because if you have slept a few hours, the risk of a traffic accident multiplies.
  4. Take gasoline and basic repair equipment: As everything can happen in this life, it could be that the car left us lying down for some reason. This is not good, but major breakdowns and unforeseen events can be avoided with a couple of tips. First of all, always carry a 5-liter bottle of gasoline in the car. This is carried just in case we have run out of gasoline, since with these 5 liters we will already have enough to reach the next gas station. It also carries a basic puncture repair kit, with a spare tire, a patch, an inflator, a hydraulic jack, and bolts, especially if you know how to change a tire. Also take other spare parts of your car that you can change, since this way you will be able to have greater safety when driving.
