The fines, whether they are traffic tickets or fines for another type of action such as drinking on public roads, urinating in public, riots… These are sanctions that seek to punish the offender by paying an amount of money to the state.

With this, two things are achieved: The first is to use the money to repair the damage that the infractions may have caused and the second is to warn the offender so that he does not commit a crime again and to scare others who have not yet committed a crime by preventing them from doing so.

Normally when we are fined for anything, for traffic issues or minor fines, it is handled by the traffic department. When we are fined, a certified notice will arrive at our homes in which we are notified that we have been denounced for such a thing, some time later we receive the fine, which we must pay at the bank as soon as possible.

But on some occasions, either due to mistakes by law enforcement officers, because we gave the wrong notification address or because the papers have been lost, these notifications never arrive, but this does not mean that we have been spared since the fine will continue to apply. in force and if we do not pay it will be recharged and finally the assets will be seized.

If you want to know how to check the fines you have in order to pay them, we are going to show you how to do it in several different ways which are easy and fast.

What do you need to consult fines?

  • Have a computer or smartphone with an internet connection
  • Read this article carefully
  • Being able to travel to the traffic headquarters

Instructions to consult fines

  1. Disciplinary file: Normally in this type of sanctions, in the event that the notification does not arrive at home, which must be sent to you twice, you will be included in what is called a disciplinary file in which your names and surnames will be indicated, your DNI and the cause for which you have been sanctioned. They will indicate that you must appear at the traffic headquarters before X date to sign the notification, if you do not attend, you will be notified and the fine process will follow, in which you will be charged if you do not pay on time. To find these files you must go to the official bulletin of your province, which is found with a search in coup and look at it every time it comes out, you can also google your ID in which if you have fines surely some file will come out. Once you go to the traffic office, you will be given the paper for the fine and you will be told how you can pay it and how much you must pay.
  2. Internet pages: Some web pages such as fines search, you can easily search for your fines by entering your ID number, then these pages will search the database and tell you if you have fines. My advice is that you do it on several pages to be sure as some are not up to date, simply searching Google for fines, we will find a handful of pages of this nature.
  3. Edictal Board of Traffic Sanctions: Better known as TESTRA, it is a database of fines that the dgt has implemented to solve the problem of notifications. You simply have to enter the electronic headquarters of the DGT and look for the TESTRA section and consult the notice board, once there enter your ID or your car registration in case of traffic fines and you will be told the pending fines that you have for to pay.

Tips for consulting fines

  • Appeal: In other articles in this same motor section, we talk about how to successfully appeal traffic fines, in which I explain step by step how to do it. If you wish, you can appeal the fines that you have pending if you believe they are unfair or if you believe that the notice has not been carried out correctly. Of course, keep in mind that when appealing, the 50% discount option for prompt payment is lost.
  • Insolvency: If we cannot pay the fine, it is best to declare yourself insolvent, insolvent is a person who cannot afford to pay a certain penalty, check with your local tax office.  Being insolvent you will not have to pay the fine instantly and you will not receive surcharges for a year, it really is like a deferment of the fine since as soon as you find a job, the fine will be deducted from your salary, always leaving the minimum unattachable so that you can live with dignity.
  • Minors: There is a curious case with minors that I discovered when a cousin of mine was fined for drinking in the street, they caught him drinking and fined him, but the agents misplaced his home address to which they sent their notification, such as the They sent twice and there was no response, the case was filed. The reason why it was not penalized is that it is prohibited to publish minors in the sanction file, so the fine is archived. So if you are a minor and you do not get the fine, you have been released.
