Painting a motorcycle is one of the best ideas we can have to improve the aesthetics of a motorcycle almost immediately.
When we buy a stock motorcycle, it may happen that the color with which it is painted does not correspond exactly to what we expected. For example, if by chance we have bought a motorcycle in an ugly color because it was cheaper but we do not like the color, it is better to do a small coat of paint to improve this aesthetic.
The good thing about painting a motorcycle is that we will be able to paint it more or less as we want, for example, drawing flames, vinyl drawings or even painting the motorcycles in two colors. You can also paint a motorcycle in a more elegant black color and be remembered as one of the angels of hell, with a more sinister aesthetic.
It also happens that due to the wear and tear that motorcycles suffer, it is also necessary to give them a coat of paint so that they return to normal and recover the youthful appearance they enjoyed before suffering this type of damage.
Whatever the cause for which you want to paint the motorcycle, it is a good idea to do it, since as you will see, it is quite easy to do if you have enough knowledge for it, being a good thing that you can do for the better at low price the aesthetics and the painting of the motorcycle.
It can also be done by putting yourself in the hands of a professional, something that is much more expensive, but also has a more professional result. I think that if you know how to do it yourself it’s much better, since a motorcycle is small, much smaller than a car and therefore much easier to paint.

Instructions for painting a motorcycle
- Give a primer: First of all, we are going to carry out a primer, a process by which we are going to be able to prevent the oxidation of the metal, since we are going to ensure that the air does not come into contact with the metal of the motorcycle, achieving thus preventing it from rusting and therefore running. The primer is done with a special primer paint, which is completely transparent in color. We are going to take the paint gun and then we are going to apply the transparent paint on the surface of the motorcycle, thus achieving the first step and the first protective layer. Now we are ready for the next step.
- Prime and sand: The primer is another layer of transparent paint, known as primer, also intended to protect the bike as a primer. To prime, we are going to do it in the same way as with the primer, that is, paint the surface of the motorcycle directly with the special paint to prime, in order to ensure that it is completely protected from the outside environment and that the bilayer paint that we are going to apply after leaving a good aesthetic. After applying the primer we will let the paint dry a bit and we will sand with a special p400 protoorbital sandpaper (if we do not have a p400, we will do it with a sanding block). We are going to do it carefully to only sand that lid, without touching the primer layer.
- Paint: First of all, we are going to give it a coat of paint, which is done with a hvlp spray gun, which means a high volume, low pressure spray gun. Give the coat of the color you want the motorcycle, doing it very carefully and give it to the areas you want to paint if you want to do it in two colors. Now we are going to let it dry for a short period of time, in order to get the first layer to dry. Now we are going to paint the second layer of paint on top of this, doing it in the same way that we did the first layer of paint. Once we have it ready, let it dry and go to the last step.
- Varnishing: Once the two-layer paint that we have applied to the motorcycle has dried, we are going to apply a small layer of varnish that will have the same effect as with the furniture, that is, to prevent the paint on the motorcycle from wearing away. To varnish, we are going to apply the varnish directly to the surface of the motorcycle with the gun, letting it dry for approximately 2 hours (something that is normally done in an oven or ultraviolet light, but since we do not have an oven we cannot do it that way). Once the paint is dry, we can use our motorcycle again, which will be freshly painted and will enjoy good visual health.
Tips for painting a motorcycle
- Protect the sensitive parts: In the same way as when painting a house, use masking tape to protect the sensitive parts of the motorcycle from the paint.
