Are you one of those who use the car only so that you can move around? And as soon as you have a problem, do you call the mechanic? Has a tire been punctured and you want to learn how to change it yourself?

I am one of the practices, that the mechanic does it for me, that is why he knows. But I also think it’s good to have notions of what they are going to do to your car or what you should do in case you end up stranded in the middle of a road with a flat tire and no battery or cell phone coverage. The first thing is to think that today is your day of very bad luck, the truth is that such bad luck in a row does not usually happen, but just in case, do not tempt luck and be prepared if it happens to you .

Instructions for changing a wheel

  1. Once you discover that you have a flat tire try to stop in a safe space to make the change. If you have punctured on a motorway, remember that there are rest areas and there will be a suitable place for you.
  2. Remember that before getting out of the car (and more if you are on the road) you have to follow a few steps: put on the emergency lights, put on your reflective vest and then you can get out of the car, and place the emergency triangles at a considerable distance and turn off the engine.
  3. Once you have completed these steps, it is important that you get all the passengers out of the car, but keep in mind that if you are in the middle of the road you must be careful.
  4. If you have a heavily loaded car, it is important that you also empty it of packages.
  5. In the trunk you will initially find the spare wheel, the jack and the necessary key, you have to remove everything.
  6. If your car has a hub cover, you must remove them to be able to insert the key into the screws to loosen them a bit.
  7. Next, take the jack and place it under the car, normally the car manual tells you where it should be placed to be able to change the wheel. Next, put the wheel that you are going to change under the car to serve as a mattress in case the jack slips.
  8. Start raising the car so that it is tilted.
  9. Now finish loosening the screws and put them away so you don’t lose them.
  10. Carefully remove the wheel from the car.
  11. Now leave the old one under the car and place the spare one. (You are about to finish one last effort).
  12. Place the screws where they were previously and start to tighten them.
  13. Now with the help of the jack lower the car again.
  14. Remember to remove the flat tire from under the car and temporarily place it in the trunk, when you get to your mechanic you will have to change it.
  15. Keep the jack next to the flat tire.
  16. Now tighten the wheel bolts as much as you can so that they are secure and save everything used.

And alé!!! you can continue with your trip!!!!

Tips for changing a wheel

– Although it seems obvious, I remind you that you should never get under the car and even less if it is already raised.

– It is important that if you do not just see any of these steps clearly, you help yourself from the car’s instruction manual, so always carry it in the car.

– If any of these steps is not clear to you or you get stuck in the middle of the change, call your insurance and have a professional come to solve it.
